Excitement balloons north of the border as two gifted midfielders are coming from two of English soccer’s most coveted clubs.
Billy Gilmour took the soccer world by storm with just two man-of-the-match screens against Liverpool and Everton throughout Chelsea’s injury crisis and people in Scottish soccer are now growing excited about the development of the next generation.
It adds to the excitement around the amazing performances of Scott McTominay in Manchester United this year.
Former Scotland global Frank McAvennie believes Gilmour is prepared to play instantly for the national team under his friend and director Steve Clark, while also devoting Frank Lampard for expecting in this young midfielder.
“Gilmour is on course. He’s truly a class gift,” former West Ham star McAvennie told Goal. “He’s been battling games at Chelsea for a while. When I moved to West Ham, I arrived in England to perform from the best.”
“That is what he’s done by departing Scotland and picking Chelsea. He’s doing superbly in midfield. Frank Lampard is giving him an opportunity and I do not think a lot of others could have given him an opportunity.
“It is brilliant to get a young supervisor to give young players an opportunity. I believe in a few years that Chelsea might be a team to be reckoned with. I believe that they are somewhat too young to battle this season or next year but I am searching for the year then when that gift evolves.
“Steve Clark is a pal of mine and oversees Scotland but I’ll still say, if he does not place him at the Scotland squad then I’ll be surprised. He may be new and young however, he bullied those Liverpool players, he then did it to Everton.
“I had been watching him and believing that is incredible and I had been happy to be Scottish.
“If Scott McTominay plays together with him afterward we may have a fantastic midfield with a huge lad in there also. The Celtic boys have attempted to perform nicely for Scotland but we haven’t got to some tournaments or even come near it. These young boys must get that opportunity to do it today.”
He’s gone make seven appearances for the Blues, that have come this year under Lampard.
