Premier League Stats: Manchester United vs Watford

Ralf Rangnick rested a few players and made some changes in the lineup. Harry Maguire sat on the bench along with England international Luke Shaw. Anthony Elanga got a chance after his equalizer against Atletico Madrid.

The average position of most of the Manchester United players was within the opposition’s half. Alex Telles was the furthest player on the left, allowing Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes to play through the middle.

Watford played in a 4-1-4-1 formation, and two former United men, Joshua King and Tom Cleverley featured for the away side.

Watford players had to defend for most of the match, and the average position of only two of their players was inside the opposition’s half.

Manchester United had 64% of the ball and created 57 positional attacks. They attempted 20 shots, and three of them were on target. Watford players made 19 recoveries inside the opposition’s half and were involved in a lot of defensive actions.

Bruno Fernandes attempted the most shots for the home team and created the highest xG rate in the match. Nemanja Matic had a good game in the midfield. The Serbian attempted 17 passes into the opposition’s final third and won three aerial duels. Imran Louza made five recoveries inside the opposition’s half.

Manchester United players attempted 20 shots, and three of them were on target. Of the 20 shots, 13 were attempted from inside the opposition’s penalty box, and two of them were on target.

Watford attempted eight shots and only managed to hit the target once in the match. The only shot on target was attempted from outside the opposition’s penalty box.

The xT timeline shows that the home team created more threats in the second half in comparison to the first. Bruno Fernandes managed to hit the target twice, one more than Cristiano Ronaldo, who was the other player to hit the target for Manchester United.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka attempted 92 passes, and 24 of them were towards Anthony Elanga. Matic received the most passes.

Imran Louza attempted the most passes. Of his 55 passes, eight were towards Tom Cleverley.

Alex Telles attempted 56 passes, including nine crosses. Of his 56 passes, six landed inside the opposition’s 18-yard box and two inside the 6-yard box. Bruno Fernandes was behind him, with seven attempted crosses.

Three passes attempted by Moussa Sissoko and Ismaila Sarr landed inside the opposition’s penalty box. Dennis attempted two crosses for the Hornets.

Manchester United created a lot of threats inside the opposition’s final third. Alex Telles created the highest threats with his 60 attempted passes.

Anthony Elanga attempted nine dribbles and created an xT rate of 0.142. Bruno Fernandes created the highest threat rate with seven attempted dribbles.

Watford had very few creation zones in the final third. Imran Louza created the highest threats with 53 attempted passes.

Emmanuel Dennis attempted seven dribbles and created the highest threats for his team.

Manchester United won most of their defensive duels towards the right side. Aaron Wan-Bissaka contested the most duels.

Victor Lindelof contested seven aerial duels and won four of them. His side won 12 duels in the middle.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka once again contested the most duels. He contested nine duels and won five, lost two, and two duels ended in a neutral result.

Watford contested most of their defensive duels in the defensive third. Hassane Kamara contested 12 duels and lost seven of them.

The Hornets won six duels each in the defensive and middle third. Joshua King won three out of the seven duels contested.

Emmanuel Dennis contested the highest number of loose ball duels. He contested eight duels and won one of them.

Manchester United won four corners and three from the right side. They won two free-kicks inside the opposition’s half and towards the right side.

Watford won three corners and four free-kicks. Ben Foster was behind three free-kicks.

Manchester United were unable to score a goal after attempting more shots than the opposition. They were unable to capitalize on their chances and have lost a few points.
