Analysis: How Jadon Sancho’s return could be a good thing for United

Manchester United are not at their best after a recent run of results. The team has been inconsistent throughout the season and injuries have added more misery to the club. The defence has been an issue and so has been the creativity. Erik ten Hag is under tremendous pressure and needs some changes in the team. Manchester United will be active in the upcoming transfer window. The new ownership has some plans and they are looking to bring the club back to its glory days.

One player whose future will be looked upon is Jadon Sancho. After some issues with the manager, the Englishman was loaned out to former club Borussia Dortmund in January. Sancho is a world-class player and has returned to his best at Dortmund. He has even participated in Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League successful campaign. In the first leg of the semi-final against PSG, Sancho was a nightmare for the opposition defence.

As the season is nearing its end and Sancho is set to return to England, there is a possibility that the Red Devils might cash in on him. In case there is a managerial change then Sancho might be fitted back in the team. Let’s take a look at why Manchester United could keep Sancho and what can he add to the Manchester club.

Versatile winger

Manchester United have lacked some firepower down the flanks over the years. Alejandro Garnacho has been a positive for the Red Devils. However, he is young and has already taken up a lot of responsibility. They need someone who can show the same intent as the Argentine.

Jadon Sancho is a versatile player and can play on either flank. His dribbling is one to watch out for. Since moving to Dortmund, Sancho has completed 55% of his dribbles and most of his progressive runs are made to penetrate the opposition penalty box.

A forward should know how to pressurize your opponents and win back the ball. These recoveries can often lead to a goal-scoring chance. In his limited appearances for Borussia Dortmund, Sancho has been impressive in his defensive display as well.

Goals & more

The 24-year-old is a creative force for his team. He is good on set pieces and can also deliver some good passes after dribbling past the opposition. Sancho has created 25 shot assist chances but only has an assist to his name. On average, the Englishman attempts 3.7 passes to the penalty box and 72.7% have been successfully delivered. Rasmus Hojlund is also looking for such deliveries into the box.

The winger can also chip in with a goal or two. Sancho has scored three times and all goals came from the left side. He has the technique to convert chances and become a game-changer.

Jadon Sancho’s future will be discussed at Manchester United. Borussia Dortmund want him back but it won’t be easy to meet the English club’s demands.
